This is how Liberal Party damaged the sanctity of the ballots

Is election still relevant today?

No. It is no longer relevant with the kind of electoral process that we have. Why? Because election results no longer reflect the true people’s will. Our elections today are for cheaters.

This is the reason why we have so many fake winners who were given the responsibility to run our government. For a candidate to be a clear and true winner, you have to win by a landslide to deny cheaters from stealing your votes just like what happened to President Rodrigo Duterte. But this is rare. Most of the time honest candidates who rely on the system lost. Cheaters always win.

We have a rotten and perverted electoral process where candidates can easily cheat their way into government office. The discovery of LP electoral cheats by PET in the recount for the vice president position confirmed this rottenness. Our elections for decades were marred by massive fraud. Votes were bought or stolen or not counted, and results were manipulated. There was no longer sanctity of ballots. As a result, our people were denied of their rights. People’s will was undermined. Democracy was hijacked.

And here is what is unfortunate, these candidates who became fake winners have perverted our democratic principles and institutions for their own personal benefits and political interest. The nation is suffering as a result. And they became millionaires and billionaires. Stealing our taxes became their way of life, not only to recover their campaign expenses but to build their political and economic empire as well.

By this, it has afforded them the capacity to continuously cheat their way to government office and has remained in power up to this day. They have been doing this for the last 30 years.

We have an electoral process where its administrator, the COMELEC, is for sale to the highest bidder. Election officials are agents of wholesale cheating. COMELEC Chairman Bautista who is now a fugitive is an embodiment of how corrupt is our election officials are. Because our election officials are easily bribed and our legal system allows them to get away with it, cheaters who are mostly traditional politicians are emboldened to cheat.

So do we need election today? Definitely not unless a new electoral process is introduced that can secure our rights of suffrage and protect the sanctity of the ballot. Until then, election is irrelevant.

There is no sense in continuing with it. It will just be a waste of time, effort, and people’s money. It will just be an exercise in futility. Continuing with it is just allowing ourselves to be fooled continually.

A new electoral system is the solution. The new electoral system must be part of President Duterte’s blueprint for genuine change. It must be one of the first processes to be set up in the implementation of the federal constitution.

However, it is not comforting to know that this is not even discuss in Congress or in the Concom, and even in many federalism forums that are being held all over the country.
