Senator Bam Aquino on his social media page shares his experience when he attended as the Philippines representative in Rome for the 9th Annual Meeting of the International Catholic Legislators Network (ICLN).

The Senator who was sent to Rome handed the letters from members of the Philippine clergy to ask for prayers for the Philippines.

“Holy Father, I have some letters from our religious leaders in the Philippines. Our country needs your prayers,” Aquino told Pope Francis.

Pope Francis smiled back to Aquino and took the letters and blessed Aquino and the rosary that he was holding when he got the chance to meet face to face the Pope.

Aquino said to the media on Thursday that one of the letters he gave to Pope Francis from Bro. Armin Luistro of the Purple Cross Movement to our Holy Father is to pray for the violence in the Philippines comes to an end and for the welfare of the widows and orphans left by the anti-drug war.

"I was so worried I wouldn't be able to give these letters from Bro. Armin Luistro of the Purple Cross Movement to our Holy Father. But God made it happen.

Sabi ko, 'Holy Father, I have some letters from our religious leaders in the Philippines. Our country needs your prayers.' He smiled back, took the letters and blessed me and the rosary I had in my hand.

One of the letters asked Pope Francis to pray that the violence in our country comes to an end and for the welfare of the widows and orphans left by the drug war.

Timi and I were so overwhelmed with this year's meeting with the Pope. Halu-halo yung mga emotions, thinking of Rory and Coco, my parents and family, and of course, what's happening to our country.

In the Pope's message to Catholic and Christian legislators this morning, he said, 'Christian politicians are especially called...with humility and courage, to bear witness to their faith.' In the past, Pope Francis asked us to fight for the last, the least and the lost, ang laylayan, ika nga.

And I remember Bishop Ambo David once saying, 'Hindi madali and pagiging Kristyano.' The message for me today. Kung totoong nananampalataya ka, dapat walang kang takot na manindigan para sa Diyos at para sa ating mga kababayan. Against all odds, in humility and courage.
