Someone like Bongbong Marcos or Chiz Escudero for President said Duterte.

President Duterte will probably step down to his position if former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wins his election case against the Vice President Leni Robredo.

This was the logical conclusion one will think from Duterte’s recent testimonials that he was prepared to resign if the ideal leader will have his spot in Malacañang.

Roque said on Thursday, August 16, "He thinks Senator Bongbong Marcos is one of the better qualified persons to succeed. If there are developments and he wins the protest and he becomes vice president, yes, he (Duterte) will make true his word.”

"If he wins the protest and he's declared as vice president, he’s willing to step down," he added.

Roque was not clear with respect to regardless of whether Duterte needs Marcos to win the electoral dispute.

“That I do not know. That’s a different question,” he said.

Duterte’s admiration and close friendship with Marcos has always been exposed. He would resign if somebody like Marcos or Senator Escudero were next in line.

Marcos and Robredo are both locking horns on who really won the election in 2016. An electoral protest was filed by Marcos with the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) appealing that Robredo won just because there was dishonesty in the last elections. Robredo has 260,000 votes ahead from Marcos.

The body that will choose whether or not Marcos is the legitimate VP is the Supreme Court sitting as a electoral council.

Currently the Supreme Court is composed of 5 Duterte representative out of the total of 15 and 13 out of 15 will be his deputies in 2022.
