World-renowned artist Lea Salonga is known for her very diplomatic and unbiased opinions even about politics. When asked about inflation, she answered with so much class that netizens couldn’t help but admire her.

Inflation for the rich

In an interview at her 40th anniversary event, Salonga was asked if she was affected by inflation, and what her opinion is regarding the matter.

She said yes, of course, she is also affected. Like a lot of people, she also doesn’t like it when her electricity bills goes up, or the price of the vegetables go up.

However, before getting angry and blaming the government, her answer encourages critical thinking when she said that it should be asked whether inflation also happened during the past administration and whether the people got angry before.

This raises the issue that if it did happen before and the people did not get angry, then maybe they are just angry with the administration. Meanwhile, if it did happen before and the people also got angry, then it is time to find a solution to why it is happening in the first place.
“We are affected to the point where there are certain goods and services that we buy that are affected, I mean that I don’t like to see my electric bill go up, I don’t like it when the price of vegetables, I mean we buy locally grown produce and when you see price has changed, is it like ‘why?'”

“And then you wonder, you gotta wonder.. it is if we’re angry about this, we have to see if it’s happened in previous administrations before and if we got angry then too… And if it happened before and didn’t get angry then we might examine why that is,”

Not 100%

When asked if she liked President Rodrigo Duterte, her answer was honest and unbiased. According to her, you can’t 100% like something. There will always be certain parts that you won’t like.
As per her opinion on the president, there are appointees that she liked and there those that she doesn’t. There are situations that she liked and there were those that she thinks are not nice.

“You can’t like everything, and you never will. You can like some things, and that is fine. That’s as diplomatic as I can be about it.”
