La Salle historian accuses Bam Aquino of inconsistency of views on TRAIN law

Senator Bam Aquino has once again hit the news with his move to temporarily suspend the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law on petroleum products that has currently lead to the continuous rising of prices.

This is what was heard from Aquino after Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno announced that President Rodrigo Duterte recently approved the temporary suspension of excise tax on oil products come 2019.

Aquino thanked the president for heeding his call and hopes that this will eventually lead to the total eradication of the law.

However, there were some people who looked at Aquino’s statement in a different light.

La Sallian accuses Aquino of turning against a law he voted for

Van Ybiernas, a historian from De La Salle University, is clearly not a fan of Bam Aquino, or any of the Aquino family and the Liberal Party for that matter.

He did not like what Aquino had to say about the suspension. Ybiernas even said that Aquino voted for the TRAIN law when it was passed.

Though Aquino was a co-author in the first presentation of the bill in September of 2017, after seeing its effects, he has been one of the few senators that has looked into these dire consequences and has continually called for the suspension as he believes that continuing with the TRAIN law will only further bring harm to the Filipino people.

Ybiernas, however, is having none of it, saying that Aquino seems to be seeing the people as fools.

Ybiernas attempts to explain how Aquino’s solution will not work

According to Ybiernas, Aquino’s solution of suspending TRAIN law and focus on a better collecting of taxes and its proper allocation will not work.

He says that reallocating resources is not legal as there are set projects that the budgets are intended for.

Ybiernas also seems exasperated of Aquino, saying that he does not understand why he keeps on listening to Aquino even though doing so boiled his blood.

Nakupow! Utak Aquinong DAP at PDAF talaga itong Bam.
