Months ago, the whole of Philippines was shocked after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered for the immediate shut down of the paradise island, resorting to many jobs being taken away from the people and the locals living in the island.

The rest time of the island was dedicated to cleaning up and making sure that rules and laws be implemented in order for the island to be self-sustaining as it opens once more the public.

Netizen, Stephanie Chua recently paid a visit to the island and she was pleasantly surprised with what she experiences.

Tourist converses with local

According to a post that Chua made in Facebook, she had a conversation with a local “habal” driver in the island.

Chua asked him how the locals dealt with the closing of Boracay.

Duterte helped

Chua says that the driver told her that they struggled at first as closing the island meant that there were no tourists that can buy their goods and avail of their services. But amidst this, the driver told her that he still continued with his job.

When asked about government compensation, she was told that the Department of Labor and Employment gave them fifteen thousand pesos for the loss fo their jobs and that they were also employed.

She was told that they were given P323 per day to clean up the island and make sure that the roads and beach was clean.

Ending her post, Chua commended Duterte, saying that she did not know about it and that the President worked in silence.

“Convo with a habal driver here in boracay..

Me: kamusta kayo dito nung closure kuya?

Him: sa totoo lang nung nagsimula yung closure hirap kami. Karamihan ng mga locals, halos walang makain.

Me: Ano ang ginawa nyo kuya?

Him: byahe pa din.

Me: kawawa naman pala kayo kuya.

Him: Meron!

Me: ayos pala!

Bakit ang tahimik naman tumulong ni Pres. Duterte 😊
