Ever since the rise of social media, platforms like Facebook have been used as a way of disseminating news and information but with the unprecedented number of users, the sharing of information can barely be controlled thus making it easy to manipulate. In recent times, the spread of “Fake news” has been an enormous problem of the government, case and point would be unofficial announcements of non-working days. Yet the solutions presented by the government have little to no effect till now. Out of nowhere, Senator Grace Poe plans to pass a law that completely blocks Facebook in order to stop the spread of fake news which brought the sister of the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago on the edge.

Paula Defensor-Knack, a lawyer based in The Hague, Netherlands, points that how can the Chair of the Committee on Public Information and Mass Media even think of such a disappointing solution in which only communist countries and nations at war would openly consider.

“When you close the most widely used social media platform the people use, YOU VIOLATE SEVERAL RIGHTS, not just free speech,” Defensor said.

The level of disappointment that Atty. Defensor was tremendous, she went as far stating that “she (Grace Poe) should NEVER BE HEAD OF STATE”.

And with such a valid point inline, Defensor ended her post a frightening thought,

“Just imagine what she would decide when faced with rebellion.”

You can refer to Attorney Paula Defensor-Knack’s post below:

“When you close the most widely used social media platform the people use, YOU VIOLATE SEVERAL RIGHTS, not just free speech.

COMING FROM A SENATOR, THIS IS EYEBROW RAISING. I'm sorry but she should NEVER BE HEAD OF STATE. Just imagine what she would decide when faced with rebellion.

As Chair of the Committee that held hearings on Mamasapano, she was a major disappointment for lack of knowledge.”
