Former Sereno supporter's open letter: You must accept the decision the way Corona did; with humility and grace

After Sereno's ouster which was immediately followed by her Motion for Reconsideration (MR) that was recently given verdict by the Supreme court, the removed Chief Justice never seem to concede with the decision of her former colleagues as she continue to stand her ground.

With the SC's decision written in capital letters as seen on the released copy of the Supreme Court En Banc verdict to the media, it reads 'DENIED WITH FINALITY'.

In a Facebook post, a former believer of the ousted Chief Justice wrote an open letter that was supportive not of Sereno's fight but of the SC Justices' consistency anent their judgement on the beleaguered lawyer's case.

Francis Abraham who is — based on his Facebook posts  a supporter of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, lectured Atty. Maria Lourdes Sereno.

According to Abraham, the Chief Justice who was removed from office through a quo warranto petition should accept the decision of the Supreme Court, in the same way Corona did.

I suggest that you must accept the decision of the SC, in the same way Corona accepted the decision of congress; with humility and grace.

The former Sereno supporter also preached about teachings from the Holy Bible to which Sereno, according to Abraham, must abide.

Being a true christian, you must also believe in the bible as the only source of authority (Sola Scriptura) and as the book itself says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," (2 Timothy 3:16").

He also noted that he saw her speech after the Supreme Court ruled on her motion for reconsideration and upheld Atty Jose Calida's Quo Warranto petition against her with finality.

For Abraham, the speech is a scathing attack on the Supreme Court.

I must say that the speech, which appeared to have been prepared even before the SC decision, is a scathing attack on the Supreme Court itself, the very institution whose judicial independence you have consistently claimed to protect.

He later questioned such act.

Why so? Is it because they have decided against you?

The pro-Duterte netizen also pointed out that Sakur was right when the BBC HARDTalk host told Sereno that she was sounding more like a politician and a staunch critic of the president rather than a Supreme Court Justice.

Abraham concluded his open letter with a very impacting message that, according to him, applies not only to Sereno but to every individual.

Romans 13:1-7, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience."

Dear Former Chief Justice Sereno,

We are both full bible Christians and I am indeed happy that you have been saved as we both believe in Jesus Christ as our ONLY Lord and Saviour, and have accepted Him into our lives. Being a true christian, you must also believe in the bible as the only source of authority (Sola Scriptura) and as the book itself says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," (2 Timothy 3:16").

I saw you deliver your speech yesterday after the Supreme Court ruled on your motion for reconsideration and upheld, with finality, Atty Jose Calida's Quo Warranto petition against you. (Joe Calida, also happens to be a born again Christian). I must say that the speech, which appeared to have been prepared even before the SC decision, is a scathing attack on the Supreme Court itself, the very institution whose judicial independence you have consistently claimed to protect. Why so? Is it because they have decided against you? I suggest that you must accept the decision of the SC, in the same way Corona accepted the decision of congress; with humility and grace.

You have also openly attacked, as you did yesterday, the current administration on various issues. Sakur was right when he said that you were sounding more like a politician and a staunch critic of the president than a Supreme Court Justice. Furthermore, Sakur pointed out, no supreme court justice in Europe or the US would issue the kind of press statements the way you did.

But then again, those words have been uttered, and we can't do anything about it. Let's talk about the future as a "Servant Leader", the way you model yourself to be in the image of our Lord Jesus Christ. You did describe yourself as such.

While it is quite unfortunate that you have been removed by your fellow supreme court judges via the quo warranto, I sincerely also believe that God had good plans for all of us who believe in him, you included. I do wish you blessings and grace too!

To guide you in your future endeavors, and also as a way of rebuke and teaching, I am leaving you with this passage from the bible, the word of God that we both cherish. This is for ALL other Christians as well. It was written for the Christians in Rome by Paul. While it is addressed to them, it is most meaningful to us Filipino christians today. It leaves little or no room for interpretation, and needs no collegial body or dean, or pastor, priest or pope to do so.

Even Christ submitted and was nailed to the cross.

Your fellow believer,
Francis
