OFW Doctor teaches the Catholic Church what should they do instead of criticizing Duterte

Doctor and an overseas Filipino worker by the name of Michelle Rose Suarez gave her two cents on the issue of Philippine President Duterte being lambasted by critics for calling God “stupid”.

Suarez claims that she is working in a Muslim country and went on to compare the practices of the religion there versus the ones in the Philippines.

According to her, the priests in other countries like to keep to themselves and not meddle with the affairs of the state. She says that they mostly focus on reiterating and practicing the teachings of their religion.

Compared to the religious people in the Philippines, she says that they tend to join rallies and “focus on destroying the president”. More than that, she says that these religious institutions in the Philippines are not perfect and even commit sins themselves.

She said that some priests molest children, engage in sexual activities, and even have children.

Suarez says that Filipino priests are hypocrites who are trying to destabilize the government.

In addition, she gives her advice to people of the Church.

One thing she says is to not engage with President Duterte. She says not to “meet him head on”, but instead they should acknowledge that their organization is flawed.

The next thing she says is that the people within the church should “practice what they preach”. She says that the best thing to do is to “act more like Jesus and be role models”.

Suarez said that the 10 commandments must be strictly enforced so that “police are not forced to kill”.

She says that if you mix religion with politics, it is sure to get messy and difficult. So, the church must yield.

Duterte vs the Church:

As a devoted catholic, I may not agree with some tirades of the President against our religion.

But let us review what has led to this full blown anger by Duterte against the Catholic Church...

1. Working in a muslim country, i see the big difference in foreign catholic priests and priests in Pinas. Foreign priests here are more focused in the Church’s teachings rather than dipping their heads into politics and going against the government.

2. Comparing also the “imams and mutawa” or priests of Islam to our Catholic priests in Pinas, you do not see them shouting in the streets and fighting with the Head of State. They stay inside the mosque and focus more on teaching the Quran and stick to their religion than focus on destroying the President like some priests and nuns do in the Philippines.  😒 ☹️

3. Priests are mere humans like us. They are not perfect and may also commit sins. What Duterte is now doing is simply pointing out the flaws and imperfections of a religious institution, which is by the way, mostly true. Some priests do molest children, engage in sexual activities, have children (yeah, i know one in our hometown  😏) and more. The hypocrisy starts when the head of the Church turns a blind eye to these “flaws” happening inside the institution.

🤔What should the Catholic Church in Pinas do?

1. Cardinal Tagle is right in not criticizing Duterte so blatantly like what other priests do. Instead of criticizing the President, they should pray over him and see how the church can help the President in enforcing law, peace and order in the country instead of protecting the criminals  🙄 🙄 🙄

2. The Church should not meet Duterte heads on. Instead, they should acknowledge the reality that our religion is imperfect just like all other religions. Then, clean their ranks first and stop meeting head to head with the President.

3. Practice what they preach. Act more like Jesus and be role models rather than focus their energy in destroying the Head of State, which is by the way, elected by the people, and still supported by the majority.

4. They should focus more on teaching the bible and enforcing the commandments and teachings of Jesus. Why???

😐Because the public see that the Church do not call out the sinner but instead support those who commit these sins... example:

A. Drugs addicts, robbers, rapists and murderers…

The Church should Enforce the 10 commandments like teach the flock to “Do not steal and Do not commit murder.”

So that the police will not also be forced to kill.  😊

Stealing, doing drugs and murdering people is a sin. The police is right in enforcing the law. Why does the church support the criminal instead of telling them to stop?! Thats where the problem lies!

B. Teach the flock to “Love thy neighbor”

but “Do not steal your neighbor’s wife or husband” and “do not commit adultery”...

insert Delima and Leni...  😏

Now, how can the public believe the Priests and follow the Catholic church’s teachings when they see that they do not call out the “frailties of a woman” but rather support them instead...

People see the Hypocrisy, and so, they lose the flock, lose the respect and the faith of the people and gain instead, the ire and anger of the people.

Then the public will say, Duterte is right.  😏 😏 😏

🤔So, the best thing to do is...

1. Let the old man Duterte talk as much as he wants but dont mind him. He will get tired eventually if you also stop criticizing his actions especially on law and order.

2. Stop meeting head on with the President and instead focus on teaching the flock to be obedient to the teachings of The Bible.

3. Enforce the commandments and teachings of Christ, and instead teach and show the flock what is right.

4. Remind the priests to be good role models and do not mix religion with politics.
