Manila, Philippines - President Rodrigo Duterte bared on Thursday to residents of Ipil at the plaza for the celebration of the town’s 69th founding anniversary in Zamboanga Sibugay the plot to assassinate him.

“I said if somebody would shoot then let him shoot,” the president said but did not give details.

He also said that he plans to quit politics after his term in 2022.

“So tapos na ang mission ko (my mission is over). I have done my best. I never question the spirituality of this world because I believed there is still another entity or intelligence which is universal which I considered god,” Duterte said.

The president also promised to arm the local government officials should the threat continue to persist.

“If there is a repeat of violence in this area I will arm you,” the chief executive said remembering the April 1995 pillage of Ipil by Abu Sayyaf and other armed groups.

Meanwhile, news anchor and radio broadcaster Erwin Tulfo said that Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher “Bong” Go revealed that the president was already told about the threat ahead of time but insisted to go as planned.

Go, said in a radio interview that the president was unfazed by the plot.

Merienda namin yan”. Go added.
