UP Professor slams Bishop Pabillo: "Stop meddling in Politics! God gives us Duterte to fight people like you"

Professor of University of the Philippines Dr. Francisco Pascual Tranquilino had once again published a very striking post in response to the criticism of Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo who  recently said that President Rodrigo Duterte's victory was not God's will.

“God did not give us Duterte to be our president. The 16 million voters chose him to be President and he is now President,” the Bishop said

In his Facebook post, Tranquilino who is one of the stalwart Duterte supporters bravely responded bishop Pabillo through a question that wrote "Why did God give us Duterte? Precisely to fight people like you who for centuries tried to use religion to interfere in the State’s affairs."

Supported with his data, UP Professor strikes against Pabillo who claimed that Duterte who was elected by 16 million voters, not even the majority of our 50 million voters in 2016 and is not even a majority president.

"How dare you say that God did not give us Duterte to be our President and claim that he was not even a majority President but elected by only 16 million voters, not even the majority of our 50 million voters in 2016. Indeed, you are ignorant of even our electoral process, as our Constitution provides for this multi-party system of voting."

"So why blame the 16 Million? Cory won in 1986 with only 7,909,320 votes, Ramos with 5,342,521 in 1992, Erap with 10,956,610 in 1998, Arroyo with 12,905,808 in 2004, Noynoy with 15,208,678 in 2010. So what majority are you demanding with Duterte’s 16M votes? WE ELECTED HIM AS OUR PRESIDENT IN A DEMOCRATICALLY HELD ELECTION, WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING NOW? We endured 6 years of Noynoying because of the 15M who voted for him, we are a million more this time, and you want to stifle the mandate we gave him because Duterte was not the Church’s choiced candidate?"

Tranquilino also lambasted the bishop when he said in a report that “God did not give us Duterte to be our president. The 16 million voters chose him to be President and he is now President,”

"It is funny how prelates like you could easily dismiss "vox populi, vox Dei that is, the voice of the people is the voice of God" simply because your preferred candidate did not win the elections. In the first place, YOU SHOULDN’T EVEN BE MEDDLING IN POLITICS. Article 2 Section 6 of the 1987 Constitution states “The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable,”. Which until now, your Church insists on violating."

WE THANK GOD FOR DUTERTE, BUT BLAME THE LIKES OF YOU FOR MEDDLING IN POLITICS!

Why did God give us Duterte? Precisely to fight people like you who for centuries tried to use religion to interfere in the State’s affairs.

Bishop Pabillo, if you are a true man of God, as most of you claim to be, then it is the people’s voice you must respect. It is funny how prelates like you could easily dismiss: “We cannot say vox populi, vox Dei that is, the voice of the people is the voice of God. Not necessarily,” simply because your preferred candidate did not win the elections. In the first place, YOU SHOULDN’T EVEN BE MEDDLING IN POLITICS. Article 2 Section 6 of the 1987 Constitution states “The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable,”. Which until now, your Church insists on violating.

So “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” would only be applicable if Cory or Noynoying or Robredo wins? Such double standard, such hypocrisy!

How dare you say that God did not give us Duterte to be our President and claim that he was not even a majority President but elected by only 16 million voters, not even the majority of our 50 million voters in 2016. Indeed, you are ignorant of even our electoral process, as our Constitution provides for this multi-party system of voting.

So why blame the 16 Million? Cory won in 1986 with only 7,909,320 votes, Ramos with 5,342,521 in 1992, Erap with 10,956,610 in 1998, Arroyo with 12,905,808 in 2004, Noynoy with 15,208,678 in 2010. So what majority are you demanding with Duterte’s 16M votes? WE ELECTED HIM AS OUR PRESIDENT IN A DEMOCRATICALLY HELD ELECTION, WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING NOW? We endured 6 years of Noynoying because of the 15M who voted for him, we are a million more this time, and you want to stifle the mandate we gave him because Duterte was not the Church’s choiced candidate?

You said the Church had cautioned the people about Duterte’s track record of k*llings in Davao, about his use of foul language, about his lack of respect for human rights and for women during the 2016 polls and now in hindsight, you insists these cautions have been proven to be true? In the first place, where did you ever get the basis to support your warnings against Duterte?

I CAN EASILY REBUT YOUR ACCUSSATIONS OF DAVAO K*LLINGS AND HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES WITH PROVEN FACTS/DATA, YOUR CLAIMS OF PERCEIVED DISRESPECT FOR WOMEN WITH HIS PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMS BENEFITING WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN DAVAO, OR YOUR AGHAST OF HIS FOUL LANGUAGE WITH “HIS BIG HEART AND NOBLE VISION WHO TRULY RESPECTS THE DIGNITY IN EVERY HUMAN BEING ESPECIALLY THE POOR, THE NEEDY AND THE OPPRESSED WHOM HE CARES, LOVES AND READILY HELPS WITH DEVOTION, CONSISTENCY, INTEGRITY AND SINCERITY AND INSPIRED BY THE SAME CHRISTIAN VALUES THAT MANY OF US HOLD DEAR.” (Yasay 2016)

As i previously said, Duterte is more Christian than Socrates, or perhaps even you.

Bishop Pabillo, what have you and your kind done for those people in need outside your churches? Can you even come close to what Duterte has given them, or come close to what he envisions for the country’s welfare and development?

You are dead wrong! We are not in this mess because of Duterte. In fact, we are in this mess because of you and your meddling Church, because of the Yellows which your Church supported, because of the LPs and fake oppositions who cannot let go of the power they wield for a very long time, because of the oligarchs who controlled everything around us because they conspired with the yellows to keep them in power. DUTERTE IS TRYING TO CLEAN UP THE MESS WE ARE IN, THE MESS YOU CREATED!

Yes, we desire for change and a good, strong and dedicated leader. We will never again be blinded by your propaganda, will never be deceived by your endorsements of inutile candidates simply because they kowtow to your religious dictates.

We are not blinded by Duterte’s tough talk nor by the social media. In fact, in today’s biased mainstream media (e.g. Rappler, Inquirer, Phil Star, ABS-CBN, even The New York Times, etc), social media becomes our great equalizer, to bring to more people the truth about our President and his government instead of relying on fake news and lies from your kind.

So Bishop Pabillo, just attend to the spiritual needs of your flock and leave the governing of our country to our President Duterte. WE ASK YOU TO RESPECT THE PEOPLE’S WILL, BECAUSE AFTER ALL, WE ARE THE PEOPLE AND OUR VOICE IS THE VOICE OF GOD!
