Duterte Meets Netanyahu in Jerusalem: 'We Share the Same Passion for Peace'

HONORED - Former Presidential Adviser for Special Concerns, Abaraham “Abe” Purugganan, posted on his Facebook account on Monday, September 3, 2018 about President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent visit to Jerusalem to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, marking the 2nd day of his scheduled 4 – day visit.

During his visit, the President’s speech was highlighted with a statement saying, “We share the same passion for peace. We share the same passion for human beings.

But we also share the same passion of not allowing a family to be destroyed by those who [have] corrupt ideologies,” addressed to Jerusalem’s Prime Minister.

Having long been accused of violating human rights, President Duterte is scheduled for a tour at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center and the Old City in Jerusalem right after meeting with Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin, according to the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, on its Monday issue.

Duterte also took the opportunity to vindicate his last week’s remarks on rape citing ‘democracy and freedom of expression’ as justifications for his statement.

“If there are many beautiful women, there will be many rape cases as well," Duterte said according to one of the foreign reporters present in the conference whilst Israeli journalist were forbidden to enter.

Duterte also compared his affiliation with President Donald Trump in contrast to Obama saying, "Trump is a good friend of mine. He speaks my language. Obama is a cold man," and went on by saying he apologized to the former President for referring him as a “son of a b*tch”.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu said that both Philippines and Israel had gained a FLOURISHING relationship over the recent years, noting that Filipinos managed to rescue Jews during the Holocaust brought by the World War 2.

“We remember that the Philippines was the only Asian country that voted for the establishment of the State of Israel in the UN resolution in 1947,” Jerusalem’s Prime Minister added.

"We’re going to sign here today three important agreements, in trade, in science and, no less important, in caregiving," he added.

Duterte’s ‘Trip to Jerusalem’ marked the first time a Philippine President have reached out since both countries established diplomatic relations in 1975.

A netizen by the name of Philippancho Mendoza was enthused by Duterte’s Jerusalem visit saying, “Mabuhay ang Mahal namin Pangulo ng Pilipinas. God bless you always Mr President.”
