Manila, Philippines - MalacaƱang has tagged the Magdalo group led by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as element or part of those that have connived to unseat President Rodrigo Duterte from power.

Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr said in an interview that it was allegedly Magdalo’s “hobby” to destabilize governments, referring to previous coup attempts during the Arroyo administration.

“Itong grupong Magdalo ay talaga namang iyan ang kanilang hobby, magpatalsik ng gobyerno, bagama’t hindi naman sila nagwawagi (This Magdalo group, their hobby is to overthrow a government but they never succeed),” Roque said in an interview with Unang Hirit.

Roque delivered the statement after the president accused Trillanes of uniting with the opposition or Liberal Party (LP) and the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) rebels to remove him from the presidency by October.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday downplayed a photo wherein the military armored vehicle was seen along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in locations where two revolts were launched, unseating two presidents.

Col. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesman cited that seeing such vehicle is just a normal occurrence.

“We wish to categorically state that there were no such sizeable movements of military aircraft or armored vehicles,” Arevalo said in a statement.

Arevalo explained that all routine movements are properly coordinated, either day or night.

“Some [movements]are even announced to the public in so far as they will not compromise operational security. We urge the public to stay calm. There is no cause for alarm,” Arevalo said.
He also reminded the public to refrain from spreading rumors that are not helpful at all.*

Trillanes and LP members have already denied the allegations of ouster plot against the president.

However, Roque countered that the chief executive had basis as he has access to such information, which may have led him to conclude such.

“Iyong sinasabi lang ni Presidente, katotohanan na alam na ng mga Pilipino at ito po ay katotohanan na nakalap din ng Presidente sa mga intelligence reports na tanging siya lang ang nakakakita (What the President said is the truth that the Filipinos know, and the truth that the President gathered from intelligence reports that he alone sees),” he said

The spokesman did not drop names but said “many” of the LP members seemed not “moved on” and accept that Duterte is the president.

“Hindi na rin sekreto na marami doon sa mga dilawan ang talagang hindi makapag-move on doon sa pagkatalo noong 2016. Marami sa kanila ayaw kilalanin ang ating Presidente (It’s no secret that many of the yellows cannot move on from their loss in the 2016 elections. Many of them have refused to acknowledge our President),” Roque added.

“At syempre po, hindi naman nakakapagtaka na kung sila ay magkakaroon ng kasunduan, para nga dito sa pagpapatalsik kay Presidente (And of course, it cannot be denied that they have plans to oust the President),” the spokesman said
