Direk Manny Castaneda’s Say on Arrogance And Racial Discrimination To Chinese People

China’s President Xi Jinping recently conducted his state visit in the Philippines last Nov 20-21. President Rodrigo Duterte and other high officials warmly welcomed the Chinese president. There were set of meetings reported and speculations of memorandum signing merely considering the Philippines as sold to China. However, there are no proof or shreds of evidence shown on the said allegation.

Philippines-China’s stronger ties

The issue on the Spratlys island has emerged for the nth time and became another talk of the town in lieu of the event. Various party-lists have conducted rallies against the bridging and strengthening ties of the Philippines and China. Some political personalities have expressed the desire for the transparency of the signed papers between Duterte and Xi Jinping. There is no statement yet released from the palace regarding the issue. The country has been divided on the issue, some agrees and disagrees with the friendship.

No to racial discrimination

Director Manny Castaneda has posted an eye-opener to Filipinos regarding the matter. The veteran actor reiterates that the Chinese people have been in the Philippines long before the birth of the “Filipino” concept. But then, Pinoys look to them as if the Chinese race is the worst existing ever. Furthermore, there are more Filipinos who have Chinese blood rather than those who have American or Spanish. Taken as his example is former president Noynoy Aquino who is described by Direk Manny as,

“Intsik mejo tulo laway,” a typical Chinese looking that most Pinoys often ridicule. He then adds,

“Before we get to be too arrogant... let’s first look at ourselves in the mirror. Wag ng umastang Peninsulares kung singkit din naman ang mga mata.”

Which side are you?

Netizens agreed with Direk Manny, insisting that nobody deserves to be discriminated for his or her race. However, one brightly commented that what needs to be protested is the act of the government of both parties concerning the sovereignty and the interest of the Filipino.

The Chinese have been in the Philippines long before the Philippines was created and the concept of "Filipino" was even concieved. Yet, to this day, we discriminate them like they're the worst race to ever exist. Ironically, an average Pilipino may have more Chinese blood running in his veins than Spanish or American. Just look at Noynoy Aquino, doesn't he look like the typical "instik bejo tulo laway" kind of Chinese we often ridicule? So, before we get to be too arrogant... let's first look at ourselves in the mirror. Wag ng umastang Peninsulares kung singkit din naman ang mga mata.
