Jojo Valerio on road rage incident: 'I was prejudged early'

In an interview on DZMM’s “Showbuzz”, road rage suspect Jojo Valerio said “I was prejudged early” wherein he was caught in a CCTV camera punching a motorist in Angeles City, Pampanga.

For the first time, the 30-year old musician spoke and defend himself about the incident that went viral on social media.

"Alam ko na maling manakit ng tao. Hindi ko po dinedeny 'yun. Kahit saan pong anggulo tingnan, kahit sino, ano pa sabihin, hindi po dapat nananakit," he said.

Valerio, a member of Lil Eyes band said he came from a gig in Clark on November 11 and before going back to Manila, they decided to eat when they allegedly encountered a speeding sedan.

The story

"Pagkaliwa namin sa isang daan, biglang may matulin na isang sasakyan... Binilisan ko ang andar ko. Bigla po akong prumeno. Pagkapreno ko po, 'yung 4-month old na anak ko ay gumulong po," Valerio claimed.

Valerio said he was with his family, colleagues, and a personal assistant when the incident took place.

"Sa CCTV kasi ang nakita is the 2 minutes itself na may ginagawa na ako sa kaniya," he said.

Valerio said he chased the sedan some 2-3 kilometers away and had to cut in front of the vehicle when the motorist refused to stop.

"Kahit siguro po basag ulo 'di po kayang gawin sa kalyeng ganun, biglang nagcu-cut without any reason. I wanted him to stop. I want to confront him,” he said.

Valerio said he disembarked alone from the two-door SUV, an FJ Cruiser sporting a special "8" license plate. He refuted claims his "bodyguard" or personal assistant accompanied him.

Bumaba ako, ako lang po mag-isa, na taliwas dun sa sinasabi sa video nila bumaba ako na kasama ko yung bodyguard ko kuno, na may mga kasama akong bumaba at matapang po ako dahil may kasama ako, mag-isa po akong bumaba,” he said.

The confrontation

During the confrontation, the driver allegedly spit on him, whom he said was also reeking of alcohol.

The first stage ako po yung unang bumaba for about 1-2 minutes, and then we’re having discussion, nagmumurahan na kami, nagmumura rin po siya. And then after a couple of like 1 minute, dinuraan po niya ako,” he said.

"I really don't have the intention to punch him. But I have the intention para murahin siya. Guguluhin ko talaga siya nung araw na iyun. Gigil na gigil po ako nun eh," he added.

The victim sustained a black eye.

Number 8 plate number

When asked about the "8" protocol plate, he didn't answer the question directly.

"There was no intention of introducing myself as a congressman or anak ng congressman. Unang baba ko, wala akong sinabi... Kung may gagamitin po ako, sa pamilya ko po. Bakit ako magna-name drop ng isang tao na hindi ko po kilala?" he said.

Nadawit po yung pangalan ng tao na yun na nakita ko lang po doon sa online thread,” he said.

Valerio was referring to Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo Lazatin II who was dragged into the issue.

The lawmaker also denied owning the SUV.

The PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG) earlier said the license plate was from Valerio's friend.

What did he learn from the incident? To have more self-control, he said.

"More self control. Hindi po ako ganung tao. Kumbaga nakanti po ako eh. Masyado akong na-prejudged ng maaga," he said.

"Lahat ng tao may limitasyon. Alam ko, mali ang nagawa ko. Pero sana natanong muna ng tao, 'Bakit ko nga po nagawa?' Sana yun po muna yung tanong. May dahilan po lahat ng bagay eh."

He posted bail Thursday, a day after he was arrested in Tarlac City.

Valerio posted a P4,000 bail for his temporary liberty for less physical injury charges and violation of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code law.

On November 10, he was also involved in another road rage incident in Congressional Ave., Quezon City.

The dashcam footage, uploaded on Facebook, has also went viral, racking up more than 1 million views and shared 13,000 times.
