The Liberal Party official,Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo, released a congratulatory message for the newly crowned Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray who nailed the pageant, Monday.

Fellow Bicolana

In a festive mood, VP Robredo took the liberty to share the limelight with her fellow Bicolana by congratulating the Filipino-Australian winner from the most prestigious beauty pageant in the universe.

“With the eyes of the world and the entire Filipino nation on you, you chose to highlight your work with the poor, and to send a much-needed message of hope to all,” Robredo said.

“With those inspiring words, you already became a winner in my heart, and, I am certain, in those of many others,” the election-beleaguered Vice President added.

Genuince advocacy

Advocating for the poor, the Duterte administration critic was impressed with Gray’s answer in the final round for the most coveted crown.

In her final question, Gray was asked about the most important lesson she has learned in life that she could make use of in case she was chosen to be the next Miss Universe.

To that, the queen replied: “I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila, and the life there is very poor and very sad. I’ve always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look for the beauty in the faces of the children, and to be grateful. I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining, and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson. If I could teach also people to be grateful, we could have an amazing world where negativity could not grow and foster, and children would have a smile on their face.”

United as one

Leni Robredo said Catriona's triumph united the Filipinos across the nation and brought them happiness.

“I wish you the best, and may you make full use of your new role as an ambassador to continue bringing the message of hope to the world. Mabuhay angmgaBicolana (Long live the Bicolanas)!” said Robredo.
