Sherry Zimmer slams Borongan Diocese for claiming clergymen were told to leave Balangiga Bells turnover ceremony

In a Facebook post, the Diocese of Borongan, Eastern Samar claimed on Saturday, December 15, that attending priests and some clerics were expelled from the turnover of the historic Balangiga Bells where President Rodrigo Duterte personally witnessed the event.

With hashtags #BalangigaBellsPH #BalangigaBellsESTE #BalangigaBells, the post read, “Priests, including the Borongan bishop, the Archbishop of the Military Ordinariate (AMS) of the United States, and the Apostolic Nuncio, were earlier told to go out of the Balangiga plaza.”

“Duterte only wants Archbp. Valles to be in the area. There was even the suggestion to the priests present to remove their Roman collars so as not to offend the President. Also, chairs were placed in front of the priests to cover them.”

Triggered by the sudden claims, this prompted Sherry Zimmer, an Independent Foreign Consultant presumably residing in the Philippines to react on a rather ‘false accusation’ that involved ‘Men of God’.

To Duterte’s defense, Special Assistant to the President Bong Go quickly denied such claim, saying that the President even managed to shake hands with Borongan Bishop Crispin Varquez and Apostolic Nuncio Gabriele Giordano Caccia.

This was proven to be true when a screen-grabbed photo matching Go’s commentary circulated online through Zimmer’s post submitted by one of her followers on Facebook.

On her Facebook post, Zimmer couldn’t help but to hit back at the Diocese’s alleged claims, citing that online news website, Rappler.com supported the idea which filled their readers with angst and bitterness, giving Duterte a bad name than it already is.

Rappler also stressed that the Catholic Church has been the target of many of the President's tirades in recent months which made its readers think that such allegation would not have been an impossible scenario to begin with.

ANOTHER BATTLE OVER THE BALANGIGA BELLS

The Diocese of Borangan has put the following statement on their FB page:

“Priests, including the Borongan bishop, the Archbishop of the Military Ordinariate (AMS) of the United States, and the Apostolic Nuncio, were earlier told to go out of the Balangiga plaza. Duterte only wants Archbp. Valles to be in the area. Some priests were even asked to remove their Roman collars so as not to offend the President. Also, chairs were placed in front of the priests to cover them.”

Some of my FB friends and I, have already stated our feelings. This was my comment to these ‘Men of God’

“It is a sin to lie and you are lying. If you don't take this malicious post down I will most certainly expose you and your evil lies. We have proof that this didn't happen.”

Another FB friend, Nnie Que, wrote, “Posting this is malicious and makes no sense other than to sow intrigue. And this is exactly why PRRD talks the way he does about some church people. You, of all people, must be spreading understanding, peace and love. But no. Instead, you enjoy causing division among people. Is that a teaching of Christ? You know the answer ,better than most of us.”

She followed it up with another comment. “See, one of your own - the priest who has direct access with the PMS - claimed it was a misunderstanding. That not all clergies present were aware of the arrangements. Looks like they seated themselves where they were not supposed to. Protocol tawag dyan, just in case you've forgotten. Masyado kayong intrigero. Just because you don't like the President. We watched the live feed. You are a bunch of hypocrites. Instead of being grateful, you sow hate. And Christ doesn't like that.”

It would appear that these ‘preistitutes’ are bearing false witness against President Duterte and so with the risk of being excommunicated – which doesn’t bother me one bit, may I ask all of you to go to their FB page and make your feelings known.

After all the work that has been done by so many people to get these Bells returned, for this to happen, is a disgrace and of course “Rappler” has picked up the story and 100% of their readers are angry. This is black propaganda and it has to stop.
