We finally have the cure? Newly discovered medicine put c@ncer cells into 'permanent sleep'

In a recent report, scientists from Australia have claimed to have discovered a new type of medicine that can be considered a miracle. This is because according to Australian scientists, it can aid in healing an extreme disease: c@ncer.

Seemingly unique and powerful, the latest discovery of the c@ncer-fighting medicine offers a different kind of approach in attacking the said illness.

Unlike the medicine that we have today, this newly discovered one takes c@ncer treatment to a whole new level.

Reportedly, the medicine 'targets specific proteins to arrest the growth and spread of c@ncer, without the harmful side effects of conventional therapies'.

What it does is it puts the c@ncer cells into a "permanent sleep" without damaging the DNA

Highlighting its research, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research facility in a statement that the latest discovery has "already shown great promise in halting c@ncer progression in models of blood and liver c@ncers, as well as in delaying c@ncer relapse".

The institute's Associate Professor Tim Thomas meanwhile said that the new method is the 'first to target the KAT6A and KAT6B proteins, which are known to play an important role in driving c@ncer'.

Professor Thomas co-led the research published in scientific journal Nature.

"This new class of anti-c@ncer drugs was effective in preventing c@ncer progression in our preclinical c@ncer models. We are extremely excited about the potential that they hold as an entirely new weapon for fighting c@ncer," he said.

"The compound was well tolerated in our preclinical models and is very potent against tumor cells while appearing not to adversely affect healthy cells", he added.

In addition, Associate Professor Anne Voss, research co-leader who is also from the same institute said, "Rather than causing potentially dangerous DNA damage, as chemotherapy and radiotherapy do, this new class of anti-c@ncer drugs simply puts c@ncer cells into a permanent sleep".

"This new class of compounds stops c@ncer cells dividing by switching off their ability to 'trigger' the start of the cell cycle," she continued.

"The cells are not dead, but they can no longer divide and proliferate", Professor Voss added.

On another note, its research co-leader, Professor Jonathan Baell from the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has stated that the findings point to a "potent, precise and clean compound that appears to be safe and effective" in so far as the preclinical models are concerned.

"Our teams are now working on developing this compound into a drug that is appropriate for human trials", he said.
