BPI cardholder na muntik ma-scam, isiniwalat kung paano makakaiwas sa bagong modus




Viral ngayon sa social media ang bagong modus ng mga kawatan para makapang-scam.

Agad kumalat ang Facebook post ng netizen na si Cat Del Rosario-Cruz matapos nyang ibahagi ang bagong paraan ng mga scammer para makapagnakaw ng pera online.


Ayon kay Cruz, BPI credit card holder ang tatay nya.

Kwento nya, mismong tatay nya umano ang nakaranas ng naturang insidente kung saan muntik na itong mahulog sa patibong ng mga sindikato.

Babala nya sa lahat, "Be vigilant people. Unscrupulous people getting creatively desperate. Please share so that all variations of the MOs can be exposed to the public."

Basahin nang makaiwas sa panloloko:

This is my own dad’s experience. Below is his message to us:

“Hay nako. Ako. Ako mismo. Dinale kahapon. Holiday ha. 3:50pm. May tumawag. Pwede ba raw makausap si (pangalan ko).

Tinanong ko: ‘Sino gustong makipagusap kay (pangalan ko).’ James Garcia daw sya.

Tanong ko: ‘What about?’ To confirm daw 2 transactions w my BPI credit card. He is with the Anti-Fraud Div daw of BPI Main in Legazpi Makati.

Ako: ‘How much were involved?’ 66k w Shopee and another 10k. E di react agad ako. ANO?!!! I HAVE NOT USED MY CARD SINCE MARCH DUE TO COVID!!

Then he went to the SOP questions: My bday, middle name, etc., and finally, if my card was lost or stolen. I said no. Then he recited 8 numbers and asked if they were my card's #s. I said I have to get my card. After, I asked him to repeat the #s so I can confirm. Inulit naman. Tama naman. Then he asked for the remaining 8 numbers and one time pin.

Sabi ko: ‘Mali. You give the #s and I will confirm.’ Hindi raw ganon. Nagtalo na kami.

Finally he said: ‘This is a recorded conversation. There is only a 2-hour window for the transactions to be cancelled. We will not pursue our investigation and we cannot protect your account because you refuse to cooperate’. Sabi ko "Fine". Sagot sa akin: "Click."

Tinawagan ni (my niece’s name) hot line ng BPI. Confirmed. Scam.”

Be vigilant people. Unscrupulous people getting creatively desperate. Please share so that all variations of the MOs can be exposed to the public.

Update note: All they need for this scam to work is
1) your name
2) your cellphone number and
3) the universal first 8-digits of a bank-specific credit card.

My point being, this is not BPI’s fault. BPI too, is a victim. It can be very well be any other bank. Scammers are just wise because there is a higher chance that one will have a BPI credit card, them being one of the biggest, oldest, most stable banks.
